Former Liverpool defender Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock has opened up about his dramatic weight loss journey after reaching a staggering 27 stone during the lockdown. The ex-footballer recently underwent gastric band surgery, describing his new stomach as the “size of a baby’s.” Having played for top clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United, Ruddock struggled with his weight following his retirement from professional football.

Admitting to being a junk food addict, Ruddock shared how the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated his weight gain. “I got lazier during Covid, sitting at home and getting bigger and bigger,” he said. Encouraged by his wife Leah and their daughters Pebbles and Kizzy, Ruddock decided to take a step towards a healthier lifestyle after meeting TOWIE star James Argent, who had experienced similar weight challenges.

Ruddock revealed how he had completely given up on himself, saying, “Leah and the kids would tell me I was killing myself, but I’d given up. Walking around hurt, and I was always tired.” He hesitated to go upstairs in his home for three years due to the struggle of climbing two flights of stairs. However, after being inspired by Argent’s remarkable transformation—losing 13 stone following weight loss surgery—Ruddock realized he needed to change.

Despite the surgery, Ruddock maintains that he still has an addiction to food. “I’m still addicted to food, even though they took 70 percent of my stomach away. I love great food; I just can’t eat a lot. I go to the Indian and order £30 of food, but I eat a fiver’s worth. I still get satisfaction from eating,” he explained.

Through his journey, Ruddock is now enjoying his new look and is determined to maintain a healthier lifestyle for himself and his family.
