Lauren Ash, known for her roles in various binge-worthy television shows, has been quite candid about her personal struggles with weight loss and the challenges posed by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). At 41 years old, she recently opened up about her health and body journey, highlighting the significant impact PCOS has had on her life.
In 2022, when fans noticed her noticeable weight loss, speculation about weight loss surgery arose. Lauren addressed these rumors on Instagram, sharing her experience with body image as a woman. “You know what’s fun? When you’re living in a larger body, people post that they’re concerned for your health,” she remarked. Her weight loss journey, she explained, stemmed from a profound need to remove stress from her life, a significant factor contributing to her health struggles.
Lauren revealed that her weight loss was primarily a result of managing her PCOS symptoms more effectively. This chronic illness can lead to various complications, including irregular periods and obesity. She shared that she had to undergo surgery due to severe pain caused by large cysts, which left her in critical condition and with a sense of urgency to address her health.
After her surgery, Lauren found living with PCOS to be an exhausting endeavor. She has since turned to inositol supplements, dietary changes, and acupuncture as methods to manage her symptoms. Although she acknowledges the importance of exercise for her health, she struggles with a ‘love-hate’ relationship with fitness. “The disease, all on its own, is completely exhausting,” she said. In light of this, she partnered with a personal trainer to keep her motivated.
Throughout her journey, Lauren has been an advocate for body positivity, challenging the notion that a woman’s worth is tied to her body size. In response to criticism regarding her weight loss, she emphasized the importance of valuing individuals for more than their appearance. “You have no ownership over my body… Also, I look hot AF in this pic and am unashamed,” she stated confidently.
Furthermore, Lauren expresses concern for her followers who struggle with self-image, reminding them that beauty is not dictated by size and urging them to embrace themselves fully. “Value is not determined by size. This life we have is so short and we waste an incredible amount of time trying to change ourselves instead of just being where we are in any moment,” she shared.
