A man who ‘thought he was going to die’ after using the ‘King Kong’ of weight loss injections is warning others of the dangers associated with online pharmacies.

Georgie Aldous, 26, from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, claims that despite losing 49 pounds through the use of Mounjaro, the mental and physical toll was too much to bear. He voiced concerns regarding the insufficient checks online pharmacies have before issuing prescriptions for such drugs.

The drug, also known as Tirzepatide, is expected to be available on the NHS in England soon. Georgie, having battled binge-eating and fluctuations in weight for years, decided to try the medication in March after searching for weight loss options online.

Over five months, he purchased the drug from Lloyds Online Pharmacy for almost $1.26 per batch, experiencing tachycardia and panic attacks as side effects along the way. Tachycardia, characterized by a rapid heartbeat, left him feeling frail and anxious.

Reflecting on his experience, Georgie stated, “I’d rather have the weight than feel the way the injections made me feel. I’ve never experienced such a feeling of emptiness since being on that.” Initially, he claimed that Mounjaro was effective in reducing his appetite and cravings, but the adverse effects soon overshadowed any benefits.

Georgie recalled the screening process when he ordered the drug, which involved submitting proof of identity and a video weighing him, yet he chose not to disclose his binge-eating struggles during the process.

Despite losing about 50 pounds, he began to feel increasingly unhealthy, subsisting on minimal calories. After suffering severe panic attacks in August, which made him feel as if he were on the verge of dying, he sought emergency help. Doctors diagnosed him with tachycardia after measuring his heart rate at over 140 beats per minute.

He cautioned others about using Mounjaro, suggesting that this type of medication should be a last resort and that individuals should speak to a healthcare provider. “You don’t want to end up in A&E or feel the way I do,” Georgie warned.

A spokesperson from Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical company that produces Mounjaro, emphasized that the drug should only be used when prescribed by healthcare professionals, urging caution in the use of online pharmacies.
