This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has opened up about her journey to better health and why she chooses not to use weight loss medications like Ozempic. After discovering she was pre-diabetic, the 49-year-old ITV star made significant lifestyle changes that have resulted in her no longer being pre-diabetic and in love with her new shape.
Following a conversation with her late mother, Alison decided to take control of her health. “Just before she died, Mum said to me, ‘If you can, sort out your weight, Alison’ – and that really set it in my head”, she shared in an interview with Good Housekeeping.
Alison attributed her initial worries about her weight to her mother’s battle with type 2 diabetes, which helped her realize the importance of addressing her own health issues. She stated, “I thought, ‘I have to be an adult about this’. The sweets had to stop – and the fatty foods.” To achieve this, she sees a personal trainer twice a week, incorporates some weights into her routines at home, and mixes in activities like walking, stretching, and yoga to keep things fresh.
“After a session at the gym, I think I’m Venus Williams, with all those endorphins pumping around. If I miss a session or two with my trainer, I notice it. That kick you get out of the way you feel is so good,” Alison enthused, highlighting the positive impact of her new fitness regimen.
Talking about weight loss drugs, Alison said, “I think that, for people who need to use them, they’re a good thing. But for me, as soon as I hear any scare story, I get frightened. So I haven’t wanted to use them, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t in the future, and I certainly wouldn’t look down on anyone who did.”
With her hard work, Alison has been able to allow herself some indulgences. “I’m no longer pre-diabetic, so I’m a bit naughtier with my food now. But because my body’s working properly, I can allow myself a bit of sugar here and there,” she explains. She embraces her new figure and the ability to wear clothes she never thought she could, proudly stating, “I mean, look at me, I’m a bombshell.”
