Stuart Campbell, a 30-year-old insurance processor, has shared his incredible weight loss journey, losing 5st 7lb (35kg) in just six months. Standing at 5ft 6.5in, Stuart once weighed 18st 12lb (120kg) and wore size XXL clothes. He felt so self-conscious about his size that he avoided leaving the house, fearing that others were judging him.

His diet was filled with daily takeaways like pizza, chips, and deep-fried chicken, with hardly any exercise. However, after considering weight loss surgery, Stuart decided to take control of his life and embarked on a weight loss journey instead.

Stuart began attending Man V Fat football sessions, walked 10,000 steps a day, and switched to a diet of around 1,700 calories daily by including Marks and Spencer ready meals. Six months into his journey, he now weighs 13st 5lb (85kg) and wears size M clothes. His wife Chloe, a secondary school science teacher, has noted a significant boost in his confidence and happiness.

Reflecting on his lifestyle changes since working from home, Stuart remarked, “I don’t really feel like that any more”—a reference to the insecurity he felt about his body while overweight. He feels he can enjoy life without the worry of judgment based on his appearance.

Stuart opened up about his struggles during lockdown, explaining how his routine suffered from staying at home. “I started to really pile on the pounds after I began working from home,” he admitted. He described his previous routine as waking up late, sedentary workdays, and meals of predominantly processed foods.

After coming close to opting for weight loss surgery, Stuart realized he could achieve his goals through dedication and lifestyle changes. A friend recommended the Man V Fat program, where he found a supportive community. Initially apprehensive about being the largest participant, he discovered a welcoming environment and began his new routine of attending football games and staying active.

His meals now consist of healthier options like Marks and Spencer’s Count on Us range and high-protein recipes from Gousto. Stuart’s journey has seen him lose approximately 2.2lb (1.0kg) each week, and he expressed pride in his transformation. “In general, I feel a lot healthier,” he noted, appreciating how morning walks help clear his mind for the day.

His self-esteem has improved significantly, and wearing clothes that fit properly is a newfound joy. He states, “Being able to wear shirts again is such a massive confidence boost for me. It doesn’t feel real – I still keep thinking that surely a medium isn’t the right size for me, but it is, which is just quite surreal.”

Stuart emphasized the positive impact on his marriage, enjoying more active quality time with Chloe, stating, “It’s been refreshing for us both, and she’s complimented me. She can tell that I’m happier now.” He is committed to maintaining his progress and targeting to lose another stone by year’s end, valuing the commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

For anyone looking to lose weight, Stuart recommends the Man V Fat program, praising the support and understanding from fellow participants. He reflects, “I don’t know if I could have done it otherwise.” For more information about this initiative, check out manvfatfootball.org.
